Good post, Fred. Thanks. But excoriate George? Forsooth! Actually, my point only peripherally had to do with WiMAX or CDMA, as both of those technologies happen to be the unfortunate, innocent bystanders in my addressing something else. And that is, the contraditions that sometimes exist between his stated philosophical goals and the products and companies he's anointed to ascendancy.
Over the years my nit has always been NOT about GG's underlying philosophies and predictions, where I believe quite a few of them, most, are actually sound, if not sometimes into the distant future. Rather, with some of the contradictions found in the technologies supported by his "picks" against the backdrop of his stated philosophies.
How, for example, does he reconcile supporting a black coaxial cable optimizer like Terayon (when that was all they did -- I suppose it's because of the CDMA in S-CDMA it employs, but I could never figure why that should make a difference when it was just prolonging the life of a dying technology when used sans HFC) with one of his exquisitely done papers, like The Fibersphere, which tends to eschew copper media of all types?
I actually miss the give and take with him and Swanson, after being a member of the GTF for some four or five years. Maybe someday I'll return there, just to see what's up.

ps - BTW, I'm puzzled over the lack of responses to my IMS posts both here and elsewhere. Any idea why? I strongly commend the Moriana reports cited in my previous post to anyone wishing to gain a fuller appreciation of just how far IMS has evolved. |
