| He's for the government providing for the poor, the country staying out of war, well...most the franchised "liberal" issues, but for theological reasons, on theological grounds of compassion, etc. That's been his career and position politically. I respect him. He thinks the Christian and perhaps religious left of all persuasions are making the mistake of letting the right make abortion, gay marriage, etc., the primary morality issues. But he met with Blair regarding Iraq, offering counter approaches, and sees the government, when done correctly (not right, lol) as the extension of "proper religion, the faith of Jesus." He is really trying to fire up the religious left to be heard, influence policy, etc., but for theological reasons. I see him as more or less the same, but on the opposite side of the issues, and wanting the government to get stuff done that he thinks God wants done. Maybe I am saying the same thing you are, with a little flavor. He's had the same message, a magazine, since way before there was an identified religious right like we know it in the last decade or more. |
