At 8.33, German's rate is at or slightly below replacement. At 9.07, the Czech Republic is below replacement. Maybe you mixed up your comments between Germany and CS? No. Germany has more in-migration. People like you are making the difference. The relatively high recent Swedish rate is the result of a successful government program, where the Swedes get a government sponsored economical incentive if they have the 2nd kid within 2 or 3 years - forgot which - after the first. I thought there was something that had a caused a change. Yes, that Italian low figure is truly strange. BTW, the quite high US birth rate, any data how that is distributed between the different ethnic and colored groups? The CIA site did not give a break down but I know from other demograhic studies that the birth rate is lowest among whites although still above replacement and the highest among Latinos.
