Taro- Just responding to the sentence. You seem to forget that Hitler was elected by a popular majority in an election according to the laws of Germany. I wasn't trying to imply anything about Merkel's 35% leading her to become the dictator of Germany. The article I cited points out that it was imperfections in the German democratic system that were exploited to let Hitler gain power. At the very least, he was never elected by a majority in an election, his majority was assembled in a back room deal long after he had control of military and police. If anything, it does show the instability though of the parliamentary system compared to the two party system in the US. Though the parliamentary system in Germany in 1932 apparently encouraged more separate parties than today.
