Kerry could not have stopped Bush from invading no matter what he did. The best he could do was warn Bush that if he rushed in unprepared he would hold his feet over the fire. Which is exactly what Kerry did. Sadly, not quite enough people realized that Kerry was right. But now they do.

Timing is everything. Kerry would whup Bush's butt now.

And BTW. There was nothing wrong with making sure Saddam was disarmed. The real issue was the unilateral invasion and total lack of planning for the occupation. Incompetence and lies.

Chalk it up to Bushie dirty tricks and deceptions. Which they have a habit of doing. I've been reading about how Reaganites made a secret deal with the Iranians not to release the hostages for Carter. Reaganites promised big arms deals. Iran was desperate for US spare parts then. Sure enough, once Reagan got in we had Iran-Contra and a lot more. If Carter had gotten the hostages released before the election he might have won. Oh yedah, and Bush Sr. was definitely in the loop on Iran-Contra. He was practically running things.
