I have also noticed the price-to-earnings gap widening between LU and NT... I would expect a good year end finish for LU. Lucent's Cingular Win Could Signal More Deals Peter Kang, 10.17.05, 3:36 PM ET Prudential Equity Group maintained an "overweight" rating on Lucent Technologies (nyse: LU - news - people ) after the telecommunications equipment maker said it won a four-year contract from Cingular Wireless. The agreement calls for Lucent to provide IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services across Cingular's entire network. "We view this as a particularly important win for Lucent as it represents its first large-scale IMS deployment with a US carrier," said analyst Inder Singh. The research analyst said the deal leaves Lucent in "a solid position" for potential deals with BellSouth (nyse: BLS - news - people ) and SBC Communications (nyse: SBC - news - people ). Cingular Wireless is a joint venture of SBC Communications and BellSouth. "We believe a successful deployment will serve as a showcase for Lucent's technology and integration capabilities and position the company for additional wins with other carriers," Prudential said. Singh maintained a $4 price target on Lucent shares and said, on a price-to-earnings basis, Lucent is trading at 15 times calendar 2005 forecasts compared with 29 times for Nortel Networks (nyse: NT - news - people ).
