"Years. We are talking years." Pretty much. And that is being optimistic. FWIW, that article uses a wrong and very persistent definition of a shotgun house. You can fire a shotgun through the front door and hit nothing except for doors, unless someone is standing in the way... bywater.org Which brings up an issue. Unless they consolidate many of the lots, there is no way to build a typical, ranch style home in much of New Orleans. The lots are just too narrow. While it should be possible to update the shotgun design to make low cost housing, I don't really see them doing that.
