Re: That's NOT how the war was sold, and you know it. Iraq had no part in 9/11. We'll be leaving Iraq to find it's own way, just as we left Vietnam to find it's own way. It's just a matter of how many Americans, Iraqis and how much treasure we waste in the mistake...
...and Israel. How come an astute observer like you fails to notice the Israeli elephant in the middle of the US war room --and, incidentally, a crucial difference with the Vietnam crisis?
Indeed, in the case of Vietnam, there was no Israel to defend against a (growingly) hostile environment... That's why pundits who claim that the US can't just pull the plug on Iraq and leave the region to its own devices are right!
Somehow, the deeper problem lies in the fact that the US can no longer compel Muslim oil producers to recycle and stash their gigantic (oil&gas) revenues in Wall Street and London --instead of building up their own Muslim (hence anti-Zionist) hegemony.... After all, that's what the Iranian crisis is all about. What?! Who's insane enough to expect a country like Iran to do with her astronomic oil/gas revenues what China's doing with hers, namely, buying up US Treasuries?!? Then again, even China is splurging zillions on US Treasuries AND AT THE SAME TIME developing her military, space, high-tech and NUCLEAR capacities....
Now don't get me wrong --I don't endorse the US crusade in Iraq. I'm merely debunking the "war-for-oil" and the "war-to-remove-ugly-Saddam" myths. As long as Israel's Judeofascist agenda sets the pace in Washington, troubles will loom large.
