Women have a LONG way to go before catching up. Laura was simply an irresponsible teenager yakking it up with her friend about her boyfriend whom she was about to kill with her car. OR...maybe she waited with her friend to crash into his car since he was headed for his new girlfriend's home? However, that woman's head was smashed in...crime of passion, nothing stolen, no reason for anyone to kill her. Horowitz covered his bases by making the typical phone calls home...why didn't he try her cell phone. I'm sure she had one. I could be wrong...but it's Saturday morning, the husband says "I'm going out" and the wife who no longer has a job gets upset because she never gets to go anywhere or do anything. They get into a big fight. He picks up a statue and bashes her head in. He cleans up as best he can and takes the telltale evidence with him so he can dispose of it on the way to restaurant where he has an alibi. He had no reason to be gone so long except to throw forensics off wrt time of death. OR he had someone do it for him. He's younger - just turned 50, is on tv, maybe has fans, sees his wife as a big problem because she would get a huge chunk of the assets in a divorce...happens all the time.
