American Military Casualties in Iraq Date Total In Combat American Deaths Since war began (3/19/03): 1,979 The ominus 2,000 combat deaths in Iraq is looming. It could happen over the next week or two. A sad milestone, but it might signal a watershed change in perception of the war. I expect the 2K number to reinvigorate the debate about the wisdom of remaining in Iraq.
