How is that any different for Canadians who own US stocks ??.. a % of dividend payout by US companies to canadians are withhold and canadians then have to try to get that when they file their taxes.. You run into same hassles and it is never clear to me if you manage to recover all of it.. And if you own these investments thru tax sheltered account, then you have no recourse to it.. No way to claim it.. You make it sound like it is a one way street..
