Autumn recap...

Corn sucked this year.
Tomatoes sucked this year.
Basic zuchinni was passable...

Lettuce was OK.
Curly parsley as usual is great and beautiful and full this time of year.
Red stemmed Swiss Chard is beautiful as an ornamental plus very tasty in salad or cooked like spinach.. I'll stick with this over the plain variety from now on. Has all the eating qualities plus it's gorgeous. A great find.
English seedless cukes were average. Worthwhile but not bumper.

The star of the season is though was the Sicilian Zuchinni... man first time planting ... extremely prolific... grew like a Triffid ;o) It covered a thirty foot 6ft high fence, the neigbour's 10 foot hedge and made it to the top of a 25ft cedar... The fruit is more slender like a seedless cuke when younger and the pale green skin is not nearly as tough as the standard zuchinni even when allowed to grow long (as a baseball bat in a few cases... LOL) Also the plant is soft and fuzzy in lieu of the standard prickley zuchinnis.. I was picking a lot of fruit with an extension ladder on the cedar LOL... Standard zuchinnis a re thing of the past in my garden... Oh and the flowers are big but delicate looking and white... so the damn thing was also good looking... I can only wonder where it has been all my life :O) I let one monster go to seed in case I cannot get the plant again...

Oh a strong mention to the green pole (indeterminant) beans.. they did great this year also...

Kastel

EDIT in fairness to the tomatoes we were away a week in June and the heat in Toronto was blistering (uncommon for early June) and a couple at the end of July so again the dought conditions of Toronto this season played havoc.. The zuchinni, beans, and cukes were spared because they were beside my neighbour and got the spillover from his copious watering.
