DJ Alberta Court Defers Ruling On PetroKazakhstan Takeover

19 Oct 07:42

(This article was originally published Tuesday)

CALGARY (Dow Jones)--The Alberta Court of Queen's Bench deferred until Oct.

26 a final ruling on whether China National Petroleum Corp.'s $4.18 billion
takeover offer for PetroKazakhstan Inc. (PKZ) should proceed.

At a hearing here Tuesday, the court heard arguments relating to an
application by Russia's Lukoil to overturn the deal. Lukoil argued the
transaction should be blocked over concerns relating to its Kazakh joint
venture with PetroKazakhstan.

PetroKazakhstan shareholders overwhelmingly voted in favor of the CNPC offer
at a meeting earlier Tuesday.

PetroKazakhstan is a Canadian oil producer and refiner operating in
Kazakhstan.
