Many people on the left in this country do have an affection for socialism and communism. That's why there have been three pro-Castro Hollywood feature films (Comandante, Havana, Motorcycle Diaries), despite the fact that Castro is a brutal totalitarian thug and millions of refugees from his rule reside in our country. As I mentioned to another poster, China has retained the Communist party dictatorial control but pitched out the economic theory. As a result their economy has seen massive growth. Their economic success is related to our giving thir products access to our market. Powerful interest groups support this. Though it may not be in our long-term interest.
