My guess would be that they have air supply systems in there just in case... Otherwise a storm like 1935 at high tide back then covered upper Matacumbe Key by up to 18 feet of water if I recall that one well. Maybe they have a "schnorkel"? Anyway, no back up oxygen system, I wouldn't put my feet in there. Taro
