First Data To Buy 80% Stake In Korea Mobile Payment Svcs
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
October 20, 2005 10:12 a.m.

NEW YORK -- First Data Corp. (FDC) agreed to acquire about an 80% interest in Korea Mobile Payment Services, which provides value-added network services.

In a press release Thursday, the e-commerce and payment services company said it will acquire the majority shareholding in Korea Mobile Payment and will lead the operations in the Korean market along with Korea Mobile Payment management.

Terms of the transaction weren't disclosed.

First Data sees this acquisition as further building its presence in other North Asian countries and the wider Asia Pacific region. The deal comes on the heels of a recently announced long-term managed services agreement with DBS Bank in Singapore. The transaction also complements First Data's existing data center operations in Shanghai.

Shares of First Data recently changed hands Thursday at $40.71, down 11 cents, or 0.3%, in New York Stock Exchange composite trading.
