The current minimum wage of $5.15, an increase of which was just defeated by compassionate conservatives, yields for a single mother of one an annual income of about $11K, which is about 30% below the official poverty line of $15K(unless of course the conpassionate conservative definition of a family doesn't include a single mother of one).
