the only reason they might, repeat might, do a split is because Buffett doesn't have any issues with large staffing levels that need to be compensated. There is a sense that to incent your employees with options you need to grant thousands of shares and not hundreds. Its meaningless actually but there it is, you aren't going to get great engineering talent with 600 options. I'm not expecting a split this time, but I think they will split eventually, probably a 3 or 4:1 at some point, once, and that will be it. My sense is Schmidt understands this and Brin/Page do not.
