EarthLink and Ambient Expand Manhattan Broadband Over Powerline Pilot Thursday October 20, 10:53 am ET Level 3 Communications Joins in Pilot to Deliver EarthLink's trueVoice Product
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 2005--Ambient Corporation (OTCBB: ABTG - News), a leader in Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) solutions, today announced that it is deploying EarthLink's (NASDAQ: ELNK - News) next generation Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, trueVoice(TM), to its Manhattan, NY pilot. Level 3 Communications (NASDAQ: LVLT - News), has partnered with both companies to deliver this voice communications service over Ambient's BPL network. Activated earlier this year, the Manhattan pilot is providing broadband Internet services to the condominium owners of a 16 floor, 213 unit building. Ambient's in-building BPL solution is a potentially cost effective and efficient means of delivering voice and data services.
"Making phone calls over the Internet is revolutionizing the way consumers use their communication tools and changing the way our customers view EarthLink," said Steve Howe, vice president of voice services at EarthLink. "By incorporating trueVoice into this BPL pilot, we are further demonstrating our commitment to advancing new technologies that can serve as competitive broadband alternatives into the home."
EarthLink trueVoice offers considerable cost-savings over traditional telephone service and includes tools that further enhance the customer's Internet-based, voice communication experience. One such feature is an innovative portal called myVoice, which allows users to manage a blocked caller list that helps stop annoying phone callers from ringing or leaving voicemail messages.
Myrle McNeal, senior vice president of Local Voice Services for Level 3 added, "We look forward to working with EarthLink and Ambient in bringing VoIP services for this pilot over Ambient's BPL system. In today's competitive voice and access market, together EarthLink and Ambient's BPL system are providing new voice and data services to consumers."
"Incorporating trueVoice into our BPL networks and having a company such as Level 3 joining us in enabling new services to end users is further evidence of the full range of products and services that the Ambient in-building BPL solution enables," commented John J. Joyce, President and CEO of Ambient. "Additionally, Ambient's BPL solution compliments very well the alternative network technologies being contemplated and developed in some of the larger cities."
