I couldn't agree more with your take on Value Line. Not 10 minutes ago, I was saying roughly the same thing to a houseguest who was commenting on its utility. I used to be a financial relations officer for an NYSE listed company, so I know them well.
My recommendation, however, was for the Value Line options trial package. This is a good primer for learning the basics that you need to know if you're remotely interested in options trading. I bought it a little over a year ago and downloaded weekly updates for as long as it lasted, but I've made up my own spreadsheets and gone out on my own. I've generated a good cash flow and learned some valuable lessons along the way--so much so that I now look at a potential purchase as much with the question of options trading in mind as of its own potential. BTW, I'm the same person as Donald, but this is my on-line moniker now.
Good luck
