As a former Cisco, I personally like to work for Cisco.
I left Cisco because I was only an Intern and I had to
go back to complete my degree. Cisco is a company for the
young. Yes, employees are required to work a lot. However,
they obtaine valuable experience in a company that lead the
industry. If they happened to join the company earlier, many
retired by cashing the stock option and the stocks they bought
on the street. I know many engineers who max out their option
to buy shares through salary.
Compensation is fairly good if the employees stays with the
company for a while. I know an account manager who worked
with me, she just recently bought a new house at Malibu. She
just quit Cisco because of pressure. But she is doing the same
thing with her new employer Yuri, fairly low salary but a huge
stock option. I personally like stock better than cash.
Just ask any Silicon or Wireless valley startup companies,
most of them do award their employees this way. That is the way
that many young employees want. If they are welling to take
some risk, work hard and then retire early...
