Don't agree at all! We had a really interesting week in that area a couple of years ago (in the Fall), and got a great deal out of two days "on site" in Fort McMurray. Make a point of having a detailed look at the environmental reclaim work Syncrude is doing, and it's pretty encouraging. I also recommend at least a picnic at Lesser Slave Lake provincial park on the way back. I do agree about Banff and Jasper, and the icefields, though. The Frank Slide site was sobering. Lovely country. Lots to see and do.
