Everyone,

Please correct me if I am wrong, but as a former IBM AIX user (and former IBM employee), the RS6000 uses the Power PC chip. I'm guessing (not that familiar with MAC hardware) that it's the same chip. I don't believe that IBM is about to stop developing the Power PC chip anytime soon because the RS6000 (of which the SP2 variant Deep Blue beat Kasparov at Chess) not to mention their IBM Network Station and other Network Computer makers like NCD Incorporated use the chip. Also I think the networkers (Cisco and/or Bay) use the chip. I'm not sure, but I think that their mainframes use the Power PC chip as well. If they are manufacturing/developing the Power PC chip for most of their products, it wouldn't make sense for them not to supply chips to Apple (though with fewer manufacturers, the steady supply of the chips and price may be less clear). In fact IBM is continually recruiting more companies to use the Power PC chip and there are competitive pressures with Intel.
