Thanks for the reply, Henry. There was a Phase II trial that showed that Lidak was no better than placebo, however, and I'm quite sure it was around the time of this broker call. The broker call and disappointing Phase II may not have been exactly early 1994.

Phase II trials are not designed large enough to show efficacy - but it is always fun to look at efficacy as a harbinger of the much larger Phase III trial. I recall that anectodal data and earlier Phase I and Phase II trails showed that Lidakol was overwhelmingly efficacious. This particular Phase II trial around 1994 was the first disappointing test for Lidakol, and it indeed was a harbinger for the equally disappointing Phase III trial in 1996 you mentioned.

Oh well, water under the bridge. To be honest, I am a little concerned that Lidakol is all that it is touted to be. The disappointing Phase II and Phase III trials over the past few years, as well as a lukewarm press release regarding the most recent Phase III has me a bit worried.

Their explanation that the first Phase III trial showed no efficacy because the placebo was active is a bit comical. To date, there is no significant effective treatment for oral herpes (only marginal efficacy). Now, someone has come up with a placebo that is active against Herpes? Patent that placebo!!

That's like saying "our cancer drug was no better than placebo, but we think it's because this placebo cures cancer."
