The entire Iraq war vote was in part a political dirty trick trap for Kerry and others.

Many of these votes going into election seasons are crafted so as to offer your opponents (in this case Kerry) only two evils to choose from. Pro-war (I support Bush and therefore won't be able to criticize him much during the campaign) or Anti-War (I appease dictators and don't care about protecting America).

Look at many political votes like Partial-Birth Abortion and see there is no correct vote. Either vote you make the rightwing will attack you for.
