Kerry was very forceful in terms of criticizing the way Bush went to war as soon as Bush started showing signs of skipping over the UN and going directly into Iraq. Bush broke his promise and Kerry was one of the first to criticize him, taking great heat from the GOP for doing so I might add.

The problem with the Iraq War was not taking out Saddam, that was a good thing. The problem was how Bush rushed into the occupation without a plan. The invasion was relatively easy and actually not a bad thing. But Bushies snubbed their noses at coalition allies and the UN and just did it their way backed up by lies, propaganda and phony intel. Probably because they wanted the oil-fields for themselves. Partly sheer incompetence and irresponsibility.

Only far leftwingers were attacking Bush on Iraq before he invaded, certain Hollywood celebrities and Conyers-Patty Murray types. Teddy Kennedy and Robert Byrd may have voted against the war powers, but they were being snookered too. Like Kerry the only intel they saw was cooked.

Again, there was nothing wrong with disarming and removing Saddam. It was the lack of strategic planning that was wrong. That's where Kerry hammered Bush and where he was 100% right. It makes all the difference too.
