Jean-Pierre,

Two places where SBUX will definitely not succeed are Italy and France. I have been to both places and although they don't have huge franchises that run all the coffee shops in the country the local bars make espresso and cappucino's that are far superior to SBUX's. It will be impossible for them to penetrate these markets and perhaps others in Europe because the people (especially in Italy) invented the concept and will accept nothing but the best.

In other markets I agree that SBUX could take a hold because they have the marketing power to push a product that is becoming popular the world over. However, because of their need to reduce costs and run full-scale operations they will never achieve the quality that exists in the Coffee & Ice Cream bars of Italy.

Good Luck,

Giuseppe Scalamogna
