Geode00, I never considered that green light that Bush Sr. gave Hussein as either a blunder or a bizarre misunderstanding of Hussein's intentions.

I may be wrong but I thought that conversation set a trap for Iraq that ultimately allowed us to impose a physical presence in the region.

And it worked. We "taught the Arabs a lesson in military power," achieved a semi-permanent military presence in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and got the world to help finance the entire endeavor.

But we know now how it resulted in 9/11 and ultimately the actions of the fumbling, stumbling son who was willing to up the ante and bet the farm. Ed
