It's also a constant retread of "the network is the computer" that raises its head every few years. The industry has recurrent amnesia.


The technology changes, the trade-offs get recaculated. Where are the trade-offs of yesteryear?

Interfaces took a big step backward in power when apps switched to the Web, even if they took a corresponding step forward in ease of use, and app makers had to run hard just to not go too far backwards. Were you there when every app writter had to re-invent session management over stateless HTTP? There have been all kinds of efforts to remedy this - remember when Java applets were going to take over the world? So far, none has really workd and/or been accepted. We'll see if this new venture gets anywhere.
