OT: Don, take a look at these lists of Toshiba Laptops.

Hopefully what was being advertised is on the list.

I cannot say for sure why the Laptop being advertised was not there for you to buy but it is a common practice in the retail world to advertise what is called a "price leader". That is to say a low priced item that often is not present in the store for sale. This is done in hopes that the buying public will buy another often higher margin product although they can take a "rain check".

Yes demand for Laptops is high so it is entirely possible that the 270 Laptops that were backordered is a high number. But what if this add you read was a nation wide add.

Anyway, hope you get a great machine!
