You are talking about ruthless delusional beheaders and suicide bombers here, who in fact are representative and worse, of "countries that do not uphold democratic principles. That do not have fair and free elections. That do not respect human rights."

Exactly...let them eat their oil. We should not have been buying oil from Saddam. We should openly shun any nation that would trade with such barbarians...even if the barbarian is of our own making!?! Can't understand why we are trading with China on a large scale. They don't have the best human rights record, yet we have the door open for them too...perhaps it's open a little too wide right now. Perhaps they need to show some improvement in their Human rights record and movement towards democracy.

But now the US has slumped in human rights as well. Losing the high ground is a big price to pay. Torture and patriot acts are showing the world that democracy is not sacred...not even in the US. Very wrong path to be on.

A more diplomatic course would have been more effective in Iraq. We are using this approach with China. Some progress is being made in China. War hasn't solved the problem in Iraq.
