I used to want a house that was very energy efficient -- there's a design that appealed to me where the house actually had two sets of outer walls, with a space in between. Extremely low consumption of energy for heating and cooling, especially if you oriented it properly to the path of the sun.

I spoke recently to an architect who used to build them. He says that the problem was if there was a fire. The house would burn extremely fast.

You didn't mention a Tyvek wrap. Those are considered essential these days.

But if you seal the house too tight, then all the chemicals get trapped inside. Like vapors from varnish -- I varnished my stairs two months ago and can still smell varnish.
