CB, I'm not sure the architect is that accurate unless he was talking about other material than bricks to make a (double-brick wall. A UK engineer when I suggested building this double wall house in a lot I have further south and further higher above sea level, he said, this design, is common in England, (double-brick wall) necessary because of extreme humid weather.

He said I wouldn't need that in my place since it will be much drier. But again the building code of the US may differ from the US but the engineering is the same.
