The Republican coalition was a diverse bunch united on one issue - the need for limited government.

I wonder about that. It's awfully hard to tell when people are really attached to a principle and when they are just using it as a flag of convenience to cover their real interests. I always suspected that most of the support for small government was actually opposition to big government run by the other guys. Once the other guys were out of power, big government by their own guys suddenly became the natural and rightful order of things.

I've been reading you long enough to feel confident that you are attached to the principle as am I. I think we are few in number.
