According to the WSJ, an investment group led by JC Flowers dropped out of the bidding for Refco's futures business late yesterday in a surprise ending to a daylong courtroom wrangle over how to auction off the various parts of the brokerage firm. Pressed by creditors and other bidders, US Bankruptcy Judge Robert D. Drain curtailed or eliminated provisions the JC Flowers group had negotiated when it reached a tentative agreement to acquire Refco's flagship regulated futures and commodities business last week for $768m
