07:30 INTC Intel to postpone new server chips - WSJ (23.10 ) According to the WSJ, Intel, facing pressure from rival AMD, is changing its plans for developing new processor chips for server systems. The co is delaying 3 future models of its high-end Itanium line of chips. Intel also plans to cancel a future model of its Xeon microprocessor line, code-named Whitefield, and replace it with one dubbed Tigerton that communicates better with other chips in a system, said Erica Fields, a co spokeswoman. AMD, which accounts for less than 10% of the server-chip mkt by most ests, has been gaining ground with sales of a server chip called Opteron. Analysts said Intel's latest moves, while not monumental, suggest the co hadn't seen its original lineup measuring up with the competition's
