Gotcha! Just seeing if everyone is paying attention.
The origins of the Internet goes way back to the Cold
war. It in fact was a demand for a system to deliver
data in the event of nuclear war. It then expanded to
include research labs and colleges. This is not to be
confused with the Web. That delveloped way afterwards
and out of CERN. What alot of people don't realize
is the demands and the development the military
contributes. CDMA is an example. Microwave and FM
are another example. Think about this; is it by chance
that Bell labs Holmdel and what use to be Green Arces
near Fort Monmouth (US Army's R&D facility) are but about
10 miles apart? Could the US taxpayers helped AT&T
develop some technology that we use today thru the military
desire for improved technology. The US military/industrial
complex is huge. That why I disagree when my government
levels attacks on trading partners about subsidized industry.
Other governments do it in direct investment and protection
laws, the US does it through taxes, miltiary and NASA. I don't
see the difference.

Ah don't get me started on Netscape, if it weren't for
government funded programs at the University of Illinios
Supercomputing Center, where Eudora and Mosiac was
invented, Netscape would be bankrupt. Check out what school
the wunderkid of Netscape is from. Spyglass too. It's akin to
the US and Soviet military pick over the German scientific
community at the end of WW II.

We want that cup back, so don't fall in love with it.
