Well, while I agree your argument, it may apply to start up
companies like Juniper networks(next cisco), but not for Cisco.
Cisco is a public company, and they cannot afford to give hefty
stock options to everybody let alone pay good salary. But still
they want top of the line engineers. I don't know how it will work out.
The housing cost in Silicon Valley is skyrocketing, and I have
heard lot of companies are planning to shift their operations to
cheaper localities.

I got the same offer from Cisco as well from another company in Midwest.
I could have chosen the second one, but I love Bay area where I
am staying right now. The employees you mentioned might
have joined when Cisco was still in its diapers. Not anymore.
