They are using these families to further their own political views, which essentially go like this: George Bush lied about WMD and now he's killed their son (or daughter.) They use these stories as propaganda to stir up opposition to the war.

What the military does is inherently dangerous, even in peacetime, but the press has forgotten about this. Family separations are the norm in the military not the exception.

The fact is that we have an all-volunteer fighting force in this country for a reason. Everyone who signs up knows that there is the chance they could be deployed. And the vast, overwhelming majority of the service men and women serving in the war on terror believe in the mission. That is a fact that is not reported, because after all, it makes George Bush look good.

Deployments in the military are part of the program for those who join, it's also part of the attraction for many that join. I've been through several deployments and have worked one of the most dangerous jobs in the world...the flight deck. People are injured and die all the time during training.

Remember when Bush flew out to the USS Lincoln? It was my old squadron that he flew with. I personally knew 2 people that were part of that flight crew. Both died a few months later while on deployment when their plane crashed on Iwo Jima.
