Yikes, didn't mean to hit a nerve!

I specifically exempted personal activity in sports from the "stupid" appellation.

Also expression of aesthetic function, whether it's a fur coat, a fancy car, a musical instrument or a rare animal.

I refuse to abandon my own judgment on aesthetics. I may not like opera all that much, but creation of good opera is an admirable thing, and even good country and western or good polka music.

I willingly, freely concede that perfectly lovely people like NASCAR, the salt of the earth, the backbone of our nation.

But watching cars drive around in a circle is a stupid activity.

My parents used to race cars. Racing cars, actually racing cars, is cool. Designing cars is cool. Building cars is cool. Fixing up cars is cool. Maintaining cars is cool.

But watching cars drive around in a circle is stupid. Doesn't matter whether it's NASCAR or Le Mans.
