Most of Iran's oil exports are shipped through the Straits of Hormuz, which can be blockaded with just a small percentage of America's naval force.

But "...Iran has also purchased and built large coastal forces equipped with high-speed, China-made, anti-ship cruise missiles as well as patrol boats, semisubmersibles and three Russian Kilo-class submarines. All are intended to close the Strait of Hormuz, through which most Gulf oil passes, in any confrontation with the West."
