Barnes: Rove Indictment Would Be 'Devastating'

If presidential political adviser Karl Rove is indicted in the CIA Leak probe, it would be "devastating” to the White House, says Fred Barnes, executive editor of The Weekly Standard.

Barnes, speaking Wednesday morning on Fox News Channel, said the feeling in Washington D.C. is "tense” as many inside the Beltway await word of the possible indictments by special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald may issue sealed indictments as early as today, according to various media reports.

"At this point, the White House would almost be relieved if only [Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff] Scooter Libby was charged, and not Karl Rove,” Barnes said. "If Rove is charged and has to leave the White House, that would be devastating.”
