The "war" on drugs is ridiculous, and since we've already tried prohibition with one drug (alcohol) and failed miserably, I've no idea why people are still committed to trying this sort of thing. The incarceration rate for drug crimes is appalling, and the cost is equally alarming. Noam Chomsky makes some interesting points about police states, and the control of populations through fear, and connects some of it to the "war" on drugs. I always enjoy reading Noam, and while I don't agree with him on everything, we're pretty close together when it comes to our opinion of the criminalization of drugs.
