Has got to be the most perfectly crafted line typed on on these boards in many a day.

Yes. You got it.

Yes, you are the second person old enough to remember when mainframes WERE the computer that said to me today, "Back to mainframes, huh?"

With a twist. You will see the vindication of Transaction Monitors in the guise of web server appliances.
CLIENT/SERVER is DEAD! FRODO LIVES!

These will be scattered throughout the enterprise (two to beam up) and will be the fan out point serving a given community (VLAN) in their attachments to data sources.

The thing scales! It's modular. Can be deployed in chunks. Boots are kept local. Manageability is increased du to the multiplier effect of having one WSA (web server appliance)per group to be managed. Throw in a protocol that allows the WSAs to inter-talk.

Heavy iron is kept where heavy iron should be kept (if a wood chuck would chuck wood)

Ahhhhhh.... life is good again. A way out of this dark and musty place has been found. I have been feeling this rising brown goop reaching my knees. It is upon closer observation, crap.

Funny kind of crap though... it is delivered on floppy and CD.

(hmmm upon re-reading this... must have missed a thorazine... ;^)
