Centex Corp. offers discounts on certain homes

NEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Centex Corp. (CTX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Wednesday said it is offering a 5 percent discount plus up to $20,000 in additional incentives on certain homes in its Atlanta market financed through its mortgage unit, CTX Mortgage.

CTX Mortgage will also waive the 1 percent loan origination fee. The price breaks are good on certain homes that are marketed under the names Centex Homes and Fox & Jacobs.

The offer requires the sales to close by Dec. 29.

"It's not necessarily a sign of a problem there," said Avondale Partners analyst Barbara Allen. "It's just that they want to get some inventory through the system in a short time. We have not seen that in the last few years. That is the thing that's different."
