If you look at recent wage surveys, wages over the past few years have been flat to declining when adjusted for inflation. Throw in soaring health care/energy/housing and folks gotta be feeling the squeeze. I'm surprised there is not more of an outcry on the pension morass, but perhaps the average Joe doesn't know. And how about executive pay. It continues to be obscene in the US, if you screw up, you go out the door with 40 million, if you cut employee pensions you put yours in a 'guaranteed trust', and on it goes.

PS - By the way, since you mentioned Walmart, did you see the leaked HR memo that the NY Times ran yesterday? Walmart's head of HR was talking about how to cut employee costs, such as hiring younger folks because older folks make more but aren't more productive, among other 'good ideas'....
