QUALCOMM has no debt, a mountain of cash, nearing $10 bn. I have no debt and own shares. How do the banks get to own QUALCOMM? They are welcome to buy it from me, at the right price. In which case I will buy something to compete with their overpriced assets and they will lose money.

Similarly, I don't think they'll be owning Microsoft any time soon. Or Google. Or lots of other things. They will likely own a lot of real estate, but I imagine they'll sell that at auction as prices start dropping and mortgagor backing becomes inadequate. I doubt they want to own real estate, other than to recover their loans.
