To All:
There's an additional fact that Steve Jobs mentioned to the Macintouch guy in their phone conversation: Apple practically carries all marketing expenses for the PowerPC chip, you do not see MOT or IBM adds regarding it.
Compare this with the Intel Inside brilliant campaign that INTC has done for the whole platform.
This advertising expenses had to have some sort of funding via licensing fees, etc.
Now, regarding the MOT departure from cloning and those who regard S Jobs as the current AntiChrist: pls remember that all this has been throughly analyzed by the Board of Directors and if not endorsed by them, at least they have not issued any counteraction. That MOT could leave them was certainly over the negotiating table and the possibility was analyzed by AAPL's Board.
It is obvious that the decisions made during the past weeks have been taken with consideration and viewing the whole business scenario and by people that are experienced and succesful AND that love Apple AND that have realized that the MOST important thing to achieve now is to make Apple profitable, for the sake of all the platform and its developers, clients, magazines, service people, etc.
We as petite shareholders and users can not possibly see the whole scenario, we do other things besides posting here and trying to figure out what's best for Apple. Maybe they were not nice or pretty moves, they knew that the IN and OUT media would be all over Jobs, still, in their "whole" vision, they had to do the moves.
It's easier to just sit down and drift slowly to death, it takes courage and vision to do the contrary to what all the "non-plus-ultra wise-know-it-all-in-Apple"s say". I am confident this Brave New Apple will strive.
Good luck to all,
