Maybe if my Germanic ancestors were Angles! That is so far back in the mists of time as to be lost.

My direct German ancestors on my mother's side got off the boat and settled in Pennsylvania in the mid 1800's, just in time to volunteer for the Civil War. My great-great-something or other grandfather fought at Gettysburg. The farm my great grandfather Smith cleared is still in the family, but for who knows how much longer.

It's ironic that two generations of German immigrants fought their cousins to defeat across the Atlantic - my great grandfather in WWI, and my grandfather in WWII. Germany provided the means of its own defeat.
