tom,
i, too, am a nytimes crossword person. for anyone who likes word puzzles, I heartily recommend www.puzzability.com. This site offers weekday word puzzles. They are the people who publish a series of puzzles on a monthly basis on the nytimes op-ed page. One of the people, mike shenk, is a world-class puzzler.
While I’ve tried a lot of their puzzles, the ones I enjoy the most are “the daily post”, a different theme each week, where you submit your answers each day and they cite those with perfect scores each week and month ( I’m in the hall of fame with a perfect score in Sept. - - it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out who I am as “sales” appears in my name), and “daily game- - common knowledge”, which is a combination of hangman, double entendre and $ 25,000 Pyramid. It takes a while to get the "hang" of this game- - it gets easier with time.
Btw, I live near will shortz and saw him at my local library. Just what you would expect: quirky, entertaining and very bright.
